See you next year!

It's the holidays folks, and I am taking a planned and needed hiatus from my blog and probably all social media as a whole for the next 2 weeks. I have some special things planned for the next coming year so I'm taking some time to get my mind right- relax, relate and release.

In the meantime, I will be spending time with my family, eating more than I need to and praising God for the many blessings he has given me this past year. I'm not gonna lie, it has been tough. With the loss of my grandmother, financial burdens and the stress that comes with marriage and children, I have wondered what exactly does it take to get hospitalized for exhaustion, cause I think I'm there. But, with all the ups and downs, there has been the same constants in my life and they have been my family and friends who love me and the God who has never left me.

So while I know that the politically correct thing to say would be "Happy Holidays", I'm going to say with a full fledged heart, Merry Christmas because Jesus is my all and he is definitely the "reason for the season."

I want to leave you with my new favorite Christmas song by CeeLo Green and it's called "Mary Did You Know". I didn't find out until I was researching the lyrics that it is a remake (several times over), but because his version is the first I heard, it is my favorite. And it is the truth.

The lyrics to this song are so powerful.

"Mary Did You Know"

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

Mary did you know.. Ooo Ooo Ooo

The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you're holding is the Great, I Am.

With that said, I wish you many blessings, a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and as always,

Love, Peace and Soul Deep Beauty,
                                    Rhonda

Foundation in a can?

Yes, there is and it's actually a great find. I have been using this for a while on and off and have finally decided whether I like it or not. It is Maybelline Dream Nude Air Foam Foundation. Here are the stats:

16 Colors (Mine is Cocoa)
SPF 16
$8.44
Lightweight and comparable to air brush foundation

Pros:
- Who doesn't love lightweight foundation, plus the coverage was just enough to cover some pigmentation.
- Easy to use for those of us who don't mind using our hands. I can put on foundation either way. But, I will admit it got a little messy because my faucet knob was brown from turning it on with the hand with foundation all over it.
- The price is phenomenal. A good foundation under $10. You can't beat that.

Cons:
- I would only recommend this product if you have normal skin. It is just like airbrush in the case that if you have dry spots, acne, hair or any texture on your skin, it will show and it will not look good.
- It dries quickly so you have to move fast when applying.

Overall I would say that if you have normal or combination skin that is not too dry, that this would be a good foundation to try.

So if you are anything like me and you still have some gifts to get, let me help you out a little bit. I'm going to give you a few ideas to get the make-up lover, or even the make-up virgin for Christmas. The Fashion Files- Dazzling Bustier

So it's a week later and I am still feeling the creative high from the Styles in the City Fashion Show. I absolutely love what I do. I was asked by Eboni Rollins, the CEO of the ERollins Group to be a part of it and I was more than happy to. The first fashion showcase I did with her company was a wonderful experience as well. So I came, I saw, I beat them faces. Then as soon as the show wrapped, I had to hightail my behind home cause mother rises as 5:30 am Monday thru Friday. Unfortunately I didn't snap a single solitary picture (I need to work on that). I did get some video on my phone, but the quality is not the best. I may wind up on FB or a blog somewhere. But, in any case I had fun and enjoyed meeting and getting reacquainted with people in the business. Plus, I have another opportunity this week as I will be doing make-up for Walk Runway Fashion Show next week-end. I'm super excited.

That being said, even though I am a make-up artist, I have a little bit of designer and stylist in me too. I've always had a small interest in it (my cousin and I created my prom dress), but the latest urge in fashion I blame on Project Runway. After the first season I took sewing classes, got a sewing machine and have been secretly making items here and there for a while. But for some reason I wanted to make something and I couldn't figure out what, until I remembered something I saw on Pinterest. (Sorry, I didn't pin it yet, but I will.) It was a bedazzled bra and I thought it was sooo cute. I have a couple of Holiday parties to go to and being a Diva on a Budget I have refrained from making clothing purchases (except that one time), so why not create my own blinged out bustier that I can style with a blazer or sweater for a creative, festive and sexy holiday look. So here's what I did.

The tools:
Longline bra
Black tread
Needle
Seed beads
White marking pencil
Measuring tape

The work:
First, I had to decide how I wanted the design to look. I knew I didn't want to cover the entire bra cup unless I had huge stones and gems to use, but since I had tiny seed beads, a design would be more practical.
Plus, all the beads had to be sewn on by hand. I started the first row doing them one at a time, then realized that I can sew two at a time and still have it look neat like I wanted.

So this is my progress so far. I'll post the end result and how I styled it in a couple weeks, after the holiday party.

Wishing you Love, Peace and Soul Deep Beauty

Shout out to Curly Nikki!

So, for anyone who has ever talked natural hair with me, they know my go-to site has been curlynikki.com. Ever since I've been wearing my natural texture I have checked in with the curlynikki community at least twice a week. (It used to be everyday, but I had to learn that moderation is key.) Her site is filled with info on styles, products and not only loving your hair from root to tip, but loving yourself as well. I was so happy to find out that she has a book coming out next year and because I am a firm believer in women lifting each other up, I'm gonna shout her book out because you can pre-order now.

Congratulations to my hair guru and friend (in my head), Nikki Walton.
