The Vision Board Party

I've talked about vision boards before and how I truly believe in the power of the law of attraction. There are so many things that I envisioned for myself that have come to pass in one form or another. So much so, that it was time to make another board. But, rather than just sit in my house by myself, I wanted to share the experience and introduce this project to some of my friends.

So I decided to have a vision board party. I invited about 15 ladies out to eat (had to start out small due to the venue). I rented the banquet room at the restaurant and provided the boards and some of the art supplies. I asked them to bring a few magazines and a pair of scissors.

In true form I made little hand outs and I walked them through the simple process of making a board. Here are some of the tips I shared with them.

What is a Vision Board?
A vision board is a collection of images and/or quotes,  used to help you reach your goals and dreams by helping you to focus and visualize them coming true.

Different Forms of Vision Boards
-Physical, usually done on poster board
-Digital, done on your computer or phone: Pinterest, PicMonkey, Vision Board Apps.
Or you can use a combination of both by making a physical board, taking a picture of it and saving that pic as a screen saver.
Themes are endless and can range from a specific goal, inspirational or broad range of life goals.

How to do your vision board:
1.       What do you want? Write down goals you want in any aspect of your life- career, love, family, school, health, or lifestyle. No matter how big or small, if it’s important to you, write it down.
2.       Find images, quotes or anything that represents those goals and paste them to your board.

3.       Place you board in a place where you can see it everyday and at least a few times a week, visualize how you would feel when those goals are reached. Also think about what you’ve done to help guide you and prepare for that goal.

How to make it work for you!
-          Put it up where you can see it!
-          Don’t set time limits
-          Stay positive
-          Keep your eyes open
       -      Be grateful, even if it doesn’t come the way you planned

Here are some pics from the event.

The event was a success. So much so, that I even had reservations already put in for next years party.
So have you been to a vision board party before? How was it and what was the feedback from your guests?

Until next time.

Wishing you Love, Peace and Soul Deep Beauty,
Rhonda

The 6 steps to success: Step 2- Visualize

In one of  my last entries, I talked about the It's Not Enough to Dream Women's Circle and how I felt inspired by meeting other women of faith who own their own businesses. It's funny how the keys to success that were mentioned were things that I had already talked about before. But, I decided to revisit them because sometimes I don't truly "get it" until the second time around. Let's focus on how to visualize.

This has to be one of my favorite steps because I 'm a visual person anyway. I have visualized so many things in my head that have come to pass that I am a firm believer that what you put out into the universe comes back to you. I visualized graduating from college and that happened in a blink of an eye. I visualized a smooth delivery for the birth of my second child and after 5 hours of labor I was done (the first one was a little traumatic). And the thing that I put on my vision board that I thought was 5 years down the line happened in just a few months- I am a published make-up artist and writer for a local magazine and it was nothing but the grace of God that got me there. When it comes to the purpose of vision boards, motivational speaker Christine Kane said it best, "Vision boards add clarity to your desires and feelings to your visions."

About a week before going to the It's Not Enough to Dream Women's Circle launch, I was working on updating my vision board. There were few things I wanted to take off and a few I wanted to add. But, the women there had given me a few other ideas that I may be trying. Instead of a vision board, one of the ladies recommended a vision letter. You write a letter to yourself dated a year from now and you read it every week or so. You put in it things that you want to achieve but in present tense as if it has already been done. It not only holds you accountable, but reading it so often helps you to keep your eyes and ears open to that goal.

Other ideas that were mentioned were a dream box and a God box. The dream box is just like a vision board, just in a box. You take images and quotes or whatever inspires you or is representative of your goal and you put it in a box. The only thing about that is that you have to make time to sit down and look through it so that those goals are kept in the forefront of your mind. The God box is a little different because you put things that are representative of your problems or issues and it's a physical representation of "giving it to God in prayer." I really like that one and am currently creating my box.

Whether you decide to do a board, box or letter, being visual is a good idea and an important step in achieving success. Go out and be the visionary that God made you to be.

Wishing you love, peace and Soul Deep Beauty,

Dare to be... a visionary.

At my company, Soul Deep Beauty Skin Therapy, I am not only focused on helping people take the lead in realizing the importance of skin care, but I also want to help encourage both men and women to take the lead in their own personal lives. Encouragement can help empower, and it's life's little experiences that help get us to our big goals.

I decided to start a "Dare To Be" campaign. This journey will be little baby steps towards living outside the box. Not all steps will be for both men and women (unless that's your thang), but it's just a way to experience things we never have before.

So in the spirit of the New Year, the latest challenge is something I actually did several months ago, and that is - I created a vision board. They became widely popular when The Secret came out, and I had mentioned before that that book made me change my mode of thinking after I read it. It basically talked about the law of attraction in that what we put out into the world comes back to us weather bad or good.

At the time I created my vision board, I was in a place of knowing what I wanted to do, but feeling like it was so far away and out of my grasp. So,I decided to stop telling myself "no" and put it out there that I can have the life I always dreamed. But, there was only one problem- how the heck do you make a vision board? I had no idea where to start other than clip pictures and images from magazines. I am an organized person so one big collage of a whole bunch of stuff wasn't going to work for me. I needed structure.

It wasn't until I read an article in Essence Magazine by motivational speaker and teacher of "The Secret", Lisa Nichols, that I figured out how to structure my vision board. ....I now was able to create order for my board which made me happy. I sectioned my board into four sections: Health & Wellness, Love & Relationships, Work & Finances and Spirit &Affirmations.

Here's what you need:
Poster board
Plenty of magazines
Scissors
Glue Sticks/ Tape
Markers
(Optional- glitter, sticker decals, etc. depending on how glamorous you want to make it.)

Here's what you do:
Basically cut and paste images and words that mean something to you and represent your goals. When researching vision boards, I came across a site for another motivational speaker named Christine Kane and she said it best: "Vision boards add clarity to your desires and feelings to your visions." And have fun with it. I felt like I was in grade school again as I was sprawled on the floor, with my legs kicking in the air.

The Results:

Whole thing

The Payoff:
So the thing I thought was the least likely to happen, did. In the Work & Finances section I pasted my pic in a magazine article and wouldn't you know that this month was the third time my name was in print in HER Detroit Magazine. Hallelujah! And as for the other goals that I haven't reached yet, I'm getting there with baby steps.

Whether you look at your board daily or weekly, you should ask yourself what you've done to make your visions happen.

What about you, what would you put on your vision board and if you already have one, how's it going?
